THE BEACHES OF NAXOS

It’s hard not to be enchanted by the beauty of Naxos, where the endless beaches of golden sand and the crystal clear sea make the island an unrivaled natural paradise; in fact, there are many beaches that are worth mentioning and it is not easy to choose the best ones, since they all have incredible seas.

Surely the most beautiful, long and sheltered, is the west coast of the island, where well-equipped and well-equipped beaches alternate for the practice of water sports with others completely deserted and hidden, ideal for those seeking tranquility.

The north and east coasts are rocky, but here too you will find suggestive sandy coves or colored pebbles.

The southern area, although more difficult and remote to reach, offers beautiful hidden bays, with wild nature, very sheltered and with calm waters.

That is why Naxos is an island suitable for everyone, precisely because it offers possibilities for all needs!

AGIOS GEORGIOS (Chora)

Agios Georgios Bay is the reference beach for those staying in Chora, the island’s main town, a short walk from its center and the seafront promenade.
It is among the best equipped with long lines of umbrellas and restaurants overlooking the beach.
Thanks to the shelter of the bay, the sea is always calm here, the waters are shallow and the long sandy beach is ideal for children.

AGIOS PROKOPIOS

This long beach of golden sand is about 4 km from the Chora; considered one of the best on the island, it has won the European “blue flag” for years thanks to its turquoise and emerald waters.
The first part of the beach, which starts from the promontory of Stelida, has been classified, for the transparency of the sea, among the top 10 in all of Greece! And thanks to the promontory of Stelida its waters are always calm and warm.
It is about 1.5 km long and ends in the village of the same name, full of taverns, cafes and bars, most overlooking the sea.

AGIA ANNA

Beach of fine sand and transparent sea, characterized by sections equipped with umbrellas and deckchairs alternating with areas of free beach; small and medium-sized boats depart from the characteristic harbor to visit the nearby islands. From the small port, along the beach, you reach the small promontory of Agia Anna, with its small white church at the tip surrounded by groves of green cedars.
Particularly suitable for children for its shallow waters and for the presence of numerous services, the beach is dotted with typical taverns and cafes that overlook the sand.
It is located between the nearby beaches of Agios Prokopios and Plaka, easily accessible on foot in a few minutes.

MARAGAS

Immediately after Agia Anna is Maragas beach, almost 4 km long, with fine sand and trees that provide natural shade.
The beach is well organized, you can rent umbrellas and deck chairs and there is the possibility of practicing water sports.
The sea is ideal for families with children, as the depth of the water changes gradually.

plaka

Very long, with well-equipped points and other solitary and typical taverns and cafes with a magnificent view of the sea, Plaka beach is famous both for its fine white sand and for the sea with spectacular shades of blue to intense blue, and for the splendid dunes that meet in its final part, wilder and more intact.
In this long stretch of beach, even in high season, those who love greater tranquility can find areas with little traffic.

Like Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna, Plaka is also a particularly child-friendly beach and offers areas of equipped beaches and other free beaches to meet everyone’s needs.

orkos

Orkos beach is located between Plaka and Mikri Vigla beaches; the ideal weather conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing have made it famous among lovers of these sports from all over Europe.

In addition to the main beach, there is a succession of beaches and coves of great beauty more sheltered from the wind.

MIKRÍ VIGLA

After Orkos, separated by a rocky promontory called Mikri Vigla, begins the homonymous beach of white sand and crystal clear sea. The first section, at the foot of the promontory, therefore sheltered from the winds and currents, is very reminiscent of the landscapes of our Sardinia.

On this beach you will have the possibility to rent umbrellas and deckchairs, but a word of advice … arrive early because there are few places and they end quickly!

On the beach there is a tavern / bar.

FURTHER SOUTH

Continuing even further, towards the south, you can witness a happy combination of beautiful beaches and natural beauty, where the blue of the sea predominates, the light of the sand and the green of the cedars a few meters from the sea.
With KASTRÁKI begins a sequence of lonely coves where you can relax lulled only by the sound of the sea waves as well as PYRGÁKI beach, surrounded by dunes and cedars is the ideal destination for those seeking peace and relaxation.
ALIKÓ beach can be reached on foot after leaving the car in a small car park, through a wooded stretch, until you reach an enchanting viewpoint … the sea here takes on polychrome shades, ranging from turquoise to blue intense, the water is of incomparable clarity, the landscape truly splendid and wild.

On the east coast, Lionas, a very evocative village and beach renowned for its colorful pebbles, and Moutsouna, excellent fish offered by its taverns overlooking the marina.

To the south, the beautiful sheltered bays of Panormos, Psilí Ammos and Kalandos.
